NOW AT THE SPEED OF FUSION

In 1994 Dennis Rederstorf had just started to get back into stock car racing after a few years off to start a family. He started working part time selling racing safety equipment out of a race engine shop in Waterford, Michigan to help cover the costs of racing. At the same time, Mike Coulter was in the process of building a new race engine for his super outlaw late model and was buying parts from the same shop where Dennis was working. When Mike and Dennis were introduced to each other by the shop owner they started talking about stock car racing and an instant friendship was formed.

In 1997 Dennis was looking to move up from the Limited Late Model class he had been running into the Super Late Model class. At the same time Mike was getting ready to build a new Super Late Model car for the 1998 season and sold his old chassis to Dennis. On and off over the next eight years Dennis’ and Mike’s teams work on each others cars, raced against each other many times, both wanting to beat the other, and even crashed into each other a few times. They both loved the sport and the competitive close racing made it that much better.

At the end of the 2005 racing season both Mike and Dennis had decided to convert their current cars over to a new class , a template bodied crate motor class, forming at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan. The rules had made sense to them and the cost to convert looked good. The new class was established to be very competitive with all the racing crate engines being within 10 horsepower of each other. In 2007 Mike decided to hang up the driver’s helmet and sold his new car he had just finished building. Dennis and Mike talked about their future plans and soon after, Mike became Dennis’ crew chief and race-day radio spotter. Things worked out so well that at the end of the 2007 race season, Dennis decided to sell his car too and together, both Mike and Dennis would combine their teams, efforts, resources, money and spare parts to build a new car. They formed a new team named ‘FUZED Motorsports’ because everything was being combined into one great team.

For the 2008 racing season they have built a new Ford Fusion race car using a Howe racing chassis and a new Ford Motorsports racing crate engine supplied by Mike. Dennis also purchased a new 24ft. enclosed trailer to haul it in. Their plan is to compete in the USPRO racing series that will be racing in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Illinois as well as selected races at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan where they both have done most of their racing. For the race team colors they chose to go with Mike’s past race car color “Blue” and use Dennis’ number 25 that he has used since he started racing stock cars in 1984.
